About Wayan
French Indonesian in the heart of Nolita by Cedric Vongerichten
Located at 20 Spring St, New York, NY 10012, Wayan operates as an indonesian restaurant serving New York in New York. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 12β3:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (917) 261-4388. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is wayan-nyc.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 1,434 reviews, which is a strong result for an indonesian restaurant in New York and suggests consistent service.
New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and New York follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

βββββ We came here for NYC Restaurant Week on a Sunday afternoon, and it was one of the worst dining experiences Iβve had. The Restaurant Week menu listed two entrΓ©e choices, but we were told only the fried chicken was available. That was disappointing, but we were willing to order additional Γ la carte dishes instead. The real problem was the service. We waited nearly 60 minutes just for the Soto Jamur appetizer to arrive. After such a long wait, it turned out to be a very ordinary mushroom soup that was extremely underwhelming. To make matters worse, the table next to us was seated about 15 minutes after us, yet they received all of their food before we did and had already finished eating while we were still waiting for our fried chicken. Meanwhile, the air conditioning above our table was freezing. We sat there hungry, cold, and increasingly frustrated. After waiting 80 minutes, our fried chicken still had not arrived. We finally had no choice but to cancel the entrΓ©e, pay the bill, and leave. What made it even more frustrating was that the Restaurant Week prix fixe menu was $30, yet because the entrΓ©e never arrived, we were still charged $20 for the appetizer. I honest

Not sure if this is supposed to be Indonesian food with French style cooking or Indonesian and French fusion cuisine. Iβm Indonesian and very familiar with Indonesian flavor. So letβs start. We were helped by a couple people but I only remember Bianca, sheβs very sweet and knowledgeable. She picked our dessert which we liked very much! The young guy with blond hair (sorry I forgot your name) was very sweet and cheerful too and he picked all our dishes. My friend and I did the tasting menu because we wanted to try so many different things but Iβm sad we missed on the satays. - crispy baby squid : cooked perfectly, light and crispy. Very saucy and a bit too sour for my liking. Not too bad though - hamachi : this one is a bit underwhelming, maybe it needs a pinch of salt or something but I only taste cumin, basil and acid. Yup the fish is lost (in the sea). - nasi goreng : I want to like this so much. The flavor is amazing and egg was cooked beautifully but the rice was way overcooked and mushy. I was so sad. - lobster noodle : finally!!!! This is the best dish of the night. Noodle still have a bire and the sauce was so flavorful and buttery, I wish I could cancel all the other dishes

A very nice Malaysian and Southeast Asian-style restaurant. The food captures the essence of the region while also incorporating some Western and Chinese influences, which makes many of the dishes flavorful and enjoyable. The atmosphere is also a highlight. The decor has a warm Southeast Asian feel, and the service is attentive and welcoming. Overall, this is a great spot for a small gathering or for anyone looking to enjoy flavorful Malaysian and Southeast Asian food in a comfortable setting.

Really wonderful service- think this is what made the experience. Server was able to go into detail about options and recommendations. Really love the service. Went with a couple of flavorful drinks but the star of the show was the food. Enjoyed crudo, escargot, meat skewers, corn frittata, ribs, and fried rice as well as Ube ice cream with a couple of friends. Tasting option is a lot for one person but able to take leftovers which was nice. Next time would probs just order individually but nice to try everything. Really loved escargot and corn frittata. Defs recommend

Below are my recommendations, based on my multiple reviews on Yelp for this place. In general, I would recommend brunch more than dinner here. Lobster Noodles and Escargot Rendang are the best for dinner. Everything feels a bit too pricey. Classy place. The most recent time, we did the Nusantara, where they picked out a bunch of dishes to total $78 a person, which works. Dinner recommendations- Escargot Rendang, Scallop/Lamb Satays, Lobster Noodles, Sundae, and Pandan Custard. OK at dinner, Nasi Rendang, Bakwan (corn fritter,) Eggplant, Hiramasa, Balado, Chocolate dessert Not recommended: Ikan Bakar, Gado Gado, Spring Rolls Lunch recommendations- Shrimp burger, Pandan French Toast, Nasi Gila
